honestly students with mental disorders such as depression anxiety etc that go to school should get more recognition and support, most people have no idea of what it is to have to pick yourself up every morning and attend class even when you feel like dying
I am so proud of each & every one of you that this post applies to. You are so much stronger, more inspirational, and more resilient than you realize or give yourselves credit for

psychotic means “has a mental illness that causes hallucinations” not “evil person.”
not just hallucinations either, here are some symptoms of psychosis
- Disorganized thought and speech
- False beliefs that are not based in reality (delusions), especially unfounded fear or suspicion
- Hearing, seeing, or feeling things that are not there (hallucinations)
- Thoughts that “jump” between unrelated topics (disordered thinking)
just bc a lot of people aren’t aware of other facets of psychosis
what they don’t tell you about depression is that sometimes it feels a lot less like sadness and a lot more like the emotional equivalent of watching paint dry
Self Care in Self Betterment
So it’s that time of the year, again— holidays and finals. There’s lots of stress going around, and we can get caught up in our busy schedules to the point where we get sick (or worse). So, I’d like to make a little post with some ways to hopefully help in our self care. You can take a whole day for yourself or just a few minutes, if your schedule won’t allow it.
- Take a shower, bath, or run a warm, damp washcloth over your face, neck and shoulders. Take some time to pay a little extra attention to other grooming, as well! You can do things like manicures, pedicures, face masks, etc. in the comfort of your home, if you prefer it.
- The air gets really dry this time of year, so you can get lotion or a humidifier to help with that. If you have a wood stove, you may consider putting a pot of water on top so it releases the steam into the air (but keep an eye on it). You can add things like cinnamon sticks in the water that creates a lovely smell, but be careful of the water level, as you don’t want the cinnamon to burn!
- Treat yourself to a little (or big) something, if your budget allows. Maybe you’ve been eying a new book, for example!
- Wash/change your blankets, sheets, and pillow cases. Perhaps you’d like to get a new detergent for an extra nice smell!
- Curl up with some music and a book, hot drink, knitting project, etc.! I’m personally fond of melting a candycane in hot chocolate while listening to musicians like Loreena McKennitt, Enya, and Mozart. Loreena and Enya both have Christmas related albums if you’d like to listen to them and are in a festive mood.
- Play with a pet you may have or a friend’s! (Be sure to ask permission first!)
- For this one, I would suggest seeing a doctor about prior. I’m in a place that gets very little sunlight in the winter, so I need it, but you may not! With the lack of sunlight in the winter, our immune systems can take a really big hit, and pulling all-nighters for finals doesn’t help any, either. When I was in school (and even now) I’d take a single tablet of vitamin D3 every day. It would keep me feeling more energized, happier, and would rarely get sick. Again, talk to a medical professional before getting these. (You can also take daily vitamins! )
I hope these suggestions help you guys, and that you all have a happy and safe holiday season!
Let me tell you, if you are ever with a person who has anxiety, and they ask you to order their food for them, or stand next to them when they buy something, or reassure them countless times exactly the time and place where you will be meeting them at, DO NOT ROLL YOUR EYES, DO NOT SIGH IN EXASPERATION, AND DO NOT TELL THEM TO STOP BEING SO SILLY. Sometimes its hard to do simple things like that, and when people help us out, it means the world to us.
This is a sculpture project I recently finished. The assignment was called shelter, so I decided to show how I felt in mine. I took over 1000 pill bottles and relabeled them to say things people have said to me to cause me to take these pills. I wanted people to realize what bullying does to people. Let me know what you guys think.

DBT Self-Help Resources: Letting Go of Emotional Suffering
Emotion regulation refers to a person’s ability to understand and accept his or her emotional experience, to engage in healthy strategies to manage uncomfortable emotions when necessary, and to engage in appropriate behavior (e.g., attend classes, go to work, engage in social relationships) when distressed.
People with good emotion regulation skills are able to control the urges to engage in impulsive behaviors, such as self-harm, reckless behavior, or physical aggression, during emotional distress.
What a Sudden Memory Loss Can Really Mean
For most boomers, a memory lapse can be an annoyance. For my wife, Sue, it was a lifesaver.
One late December afternoon, Sue left our New York City apartment for an exercise class. She returned a little over an hour later, unable to remember how she arrived home.
Then things got really strange…

To all my fellow depressives, getting hit hard by the suddenly shorter, colder days? I’m with you. I’m on an unshakeable schedule when it comes to Seasonal Activated Depression (SAD – aww. Nice acronym. But wouldn’t Feeling Under-Cheerful, Killing The Happy Inside Syndrome be more accurate?)
Leading up to Halloween? Couldn’t be happier. The second after midnight on the 31st? The gloom & grey come down like a mildewy theatre curtain.
Please don’t forget, these next few months, until the spring kicks in and we can all start skateboarding on the serotonin rainbow of summer – you CAN get through this. One way is to go regularly help someone else. In a big or small way. Talk to someone regularly, or bring someone food or just your company. One selfish benefit of charity is it gives you a free vacation from inside your own head. Don’t worry – all that gorgeous nonsense & noise you’ve got rattling around inside your skull will politely wait until you come back.
And now I’m going to give you a weird piece of advice that’s always worked for me.
Read something Russian. Novel, short story, play, poem. Especially Pushkin or Dostoyevsky. Holy moley did those guys live train wreck lives, and they lived them in a state of near-constant, tomb-like winter.
They didn’t write happy stuff, those Russians. But man did they sling some defiant word-bricks at the darkness, as if to say, to their own depression and madness, “I own YOU. You’re merely renting space within my mind & soul. You REALLY want to stake a claim to my headspace? Then you’re gonna have to share it with some darkness of my OWN creation. I’m gonna give you a roommate called CRIME & PUNISHMENT that’ll
send you screaming out onto the Russian steppes.”Read something Russian. Remind your depression that you have access to ancient, arctic gloom-blasts, and that if you can’t make it leave your head, you can sure as shit frighten it into being a polite guest until the snow melts.

Free DBT print-able workbook!
Pretty basic DBT skills workbook!
It’s kinda campy-looking, but I’ve found some stuff in it useful, and a lot of it mirrors the stuff we used in the DBT hospital I was in.
