The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.

Compassion is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and the deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment.
Sigyn embodies and teaches everything we could ever hope to learn about love, compassion, and many other virtues as well. Where is love in our religion? It rests with Sigyn. Where is compassion? In Her heart.
The thing about Sigyn is that she’s a perfect example of how a woman can be strong and powerful without picking up a sword. Warrior women are amazing and wonderful and I love them but physical strength is not the only way a woman can be strong. I think a lot of women who are strong in other ways tend to get overlooked as weak when really their power is simply manifested in less obvious ways.
Sigyn’s strength is in her constancy and her loyalty and her compassion. She may not be skilled with a blade like Sif, but her heart is a shield for the people she loves and it takes a great deal of endurance to shoulder that burden.
She has a quieter strength and she wields patience and compassion as her weapons of choice and I just think that’s really beautiful.
Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.
