But is not just about volume, you can also raise or lower the bass or adjust specific frequencies.

They also have preset filters that you can use to cancel out crowd noise or enhance the sound a concert venue.

“Riding on a bus? Just tap the “Bus” profile to drown out the low frequency hum. Walking around in a city? Tap the “City” or “Crowd” filters to tune out the murmurs and shouts. (There are also some crazier effects like “Echo” and “Fuzz.”)”

These have been created for the mass market but will have specific benefits to disabled people who want to block out sounds or for those who have hearing impairments.

“When you show up for a flight at an airport, the Here app could automatically suggest you switch to that profile. If you always set it to office mode at a certain location, the earbuds could start suggesting that filter when you arrive. Kraft’s ideas for Here go even farther than that, and they start to sound almost sinister. “I sometimes sit here with [the decibel setting at] +6 with just the door open and eavesdrop on the office, it’s kind of amazing,” Kraft jokes. “You can hear, like, the little conversations that you’re not supposed to hear.“The Here earbuds seem ready to tackle these everyday situations, but Kraft says they’re meant for more aggressive settings like live concerts, or the hustle and bustle of a big city.”

Called the Here Active Listening System by Doppler Labs, there is currently a waiting list to buy them.

This particular one was from Skinit – they have a deal w/ Medtronic I guess: http://medtronic.skinit.com/   there’s also a site called Pump Peelz  that has skins for more types of pumps & cgms.  Their selection isn’t as good, but you can design your own if you’re up for the challenge – could do some really cool stuff. 🙂

If I ask you to validate something, it’s not because I’m fishing for anything superficial.

It’s going to be because I’m sitting in the middle of my own thoughts, and they’re telling me everything and anything to the contrary in order to make it seem like I shouldn’t be wasting anyone’s time. It’s going to be because I cannot make myself think it on a level that tells those thoughts to stop.

Those thoughts are monsters. They revel in the idea that somewhere, someone might think I’m being an attention-grabby person who just wants to feel validated. They love the thought that people will judge me and think me insecure.

But damnit, I AM insecure. I’m insecure because I have been fighting against internal and external forces my.entire.life that have been telling me I’m worth absolutely nothing. No matter what I do. No matter how hard I try. No matter if I break myself in the process.

If I ask you whether or not I am anything positive, it is because right now I feel anything but, and I’m losing.

On the days where I just cannot move, because I’m either in pain or my mind is off in a field somewhere picking daisies and setting them on fire, I NEED to feel like I’m still worth some kind of good thing in someone’s eyes. And those days happen a lot. Because I am still finding pieces of myself that I forgot went missing.

If you’re in the same boat, and a support network person isn’t up to the task of reminding you you’re worthwhile, do your best to ignore them and find someone who can help you. It is SO hard to see the good things you’re worth in an era that’s full of over-achievers and people talking about how MUCH they’ve been able to do in x amount of time. And it’s awesome that those people could do that. But we all need to take a step back and realise what we’re capable of, because for some, if it’s all you can do to feed yourself, keep clean, run an errand, or clean the house, BRAVO!!! I have days where I can’t even do any of that.

You’re worthwhile.

Supernatural: Misha Collins on launching a support network for fans | EW.com

After 11 seasons on the air, Supernatural not only has one of the most loyal fan bases on television, but it also has one of the most active. From winning EW’s Fanuary to helping multiple charity campaigns to succeed, the SPN Family is a close-knit community, and it’s one that actors Misha Collins, Jensen Ackles, and Jared Padalecki care about deeply.

All three actors have worked on charity campaigns in the past, but now, the actors are launching a campaign aimed to specifically provide the fandom with support.

“We have this interesting exposure to our fandom in the form of conventions, where we go and we meet fans face-to-face pretty much every other weekend,” Collins says. “And we have occasion to meet thousands and thousands of Supernatural fans and at every event, every one of us encounters as many as a dozen people who share really heart-rending stories about self-harm or addiction or depression or suicide attempts. We see a lot of people with tattoos of semicolons on themselves – the semicolon is where the author could’ve chosen to end a sentence but instead chose to carry it on so it’s a very potent symbol for somebody who’s struggled with near-death situations and forged on.”

And after years of hearing those stories, Collins has partnered with his fellow actors to launch The SPNFamily Crisis Support Network, a community support system to help fans cope with mental health issues such as depression, self-injury, and addiction.

Specifically, Collins and Ackles have recently launched You Are Not Alone, a T-shirt campaign from which proceeds will help launch the support network. Furthermore, they’re working with a number of nonprofits to get the network off the ground. “The nonprofit Random Acts is housing this network in partnership with two other nonprofits, IMAlive and To Write Love of Her Arms, which are helping us,” Collins says. “They have experience in this realm so they’re helping us build it in a an efficacious way.”

And in doing so, they’re hoping to create a space for fans to turn to one another in times of need. “For whatever reason, it seems to be something that is prevalent, or at least bubbles to the surface in our fandom. It’s just something that seems to be affecting a lot of people,” Collins says, adding, “I think one of the big problems that people face when they’re struggling with these things is not knowing where to turn. But if you are part of a community and you know that that community is offering help in a certain way and it’s something that you know is there, I think it might be really helpful. Anyway, that’s what me and Jared and Jensen thought.”

And after about six months of working on pulling everything together, The SPNFamily Crisis Support Network is becoming a reality. “We have psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, and so far, about 1,500 people have volunteered to help man the hotlines,” Collins says, noting that part of the network is fans being trained to help fans, but that’s only after each person who volunteers is thoroughly vetted and trained.

But for now, this is just the beginning. “I’m really excited to actually see this thing hit the ground,” Collins says.

Supernatural airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

Instead of telling disabled kids “you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it,” I think we should tell them, “the things you are capable of doing matter.”

A person can’t live on an increasingly strained hope that someday they’ll be good enough, especially if all you ever do is tell them who they are and what they do now is worthless.
